Memorial Day Weekend

Highlights:

• Finding 24 geocaches. Why? Because you get to explore neat places like a covered bridge in Greenville.


• Spending the day in Greenville with my family


• The boys spent the night at Aunt Janet's on Saturday


• The great toy clean out (I'm not sure if that's a highlight or lowlight! Haha!)


• Good gym time this morning


• Lunch at Panera with Barb and Kiersten


• Delicious burgers grilled by Dan for our indoor picnic. It was way to hot to eat outside! It hit 91 at our house today.


• No major injuries!

A cache a day keeps the doctor away

What do you do with two energetic boys, lots of woods, and beautiful weather? Go geocaching. Geocaching is like a worldwide treasure hunt. Anyone can hide a container, big or small, and list it on the website for other geocachers to find.
We started a few weeks ago by going on geocaching.com and finding a few caches within a few miles of our house with the same gps we use for driving. We were fairly successful, but somewhat frustrated because our nextar wasn't sensitive enough to pinpoint the exact cache location. With our magellan explorist gps which is designed for gecaching, we're doing much better at finding caches. Some are large enough to hold small toys which the boys can trade their old toys for. Some are smaller than the diameter of a dime and 1/2 inch thick.
It's a great excuse to go walking all through the woods in North Park, seeing some rather creepy places (cemeteries, etc.), lots of deer, and even a fox. We've taken full advantage of sunny, warm evenings, and, despite my falling off a very large log which rolled out from under me, I really enjoy the hunt and find adventure.

Antics

Sam: When can we go swimming?
Nana: Sometime this summer. I have to do some electrical work first. (on her pump, etc.)
Isaiah: (grinning hugely) So we can get electrocuted when we go in?

Dan got home from work, Sam was still sleeping, and Isaiah kept interrupting Dan and my conversation.
Me: Isaiah, please don't interrupt unless it's an emergency, like if someone is bleeding or they broke a bone. Why don't you give your brother a hug and tell him it's time to wake up.
Isaiah goes into the other room where Sam is sleeping and doesn't want to wake up, then comes right back and interrupts again.
Me: Isaiah, is someone bleeding or broke a bone?
Isaiah: Well, Sam's acting like he's dead.

Mom cooked dinner for us... Isaiah looked at the pork and called it chicken. We didn't correct him, for fear he would refuse to eat it.
Nana: Well does everybody like their chicken?
Isaiah: Yes! It's my #2 favorite chicken.
Everyone laughing...
Me: What's #1?
Isaiah: Grandma's chicken salad.

Phipps

Thanks to Better Homes and Gardens and a tip from my college friend Mollie, the boys and I enjoyed a free day at Phipps Conservatory. I figured that at the least, they would have somewhere to get some energy out. I was surprised how much they loved it. All of it! They were amazed at the flowers, the butterflies, the glass sculptures, the children's discovery garden, the fountains, the boats, etc. Afterward, we enjoyed a picnic lunch outside, then walked around the May Market. Beautiful weather. Relaxing day.
