Battleship

We played the game Battleship over vacation. Isaiah had never played before and was loving it. He needed a lot of help because he wasn't quite getting the idea of coordinates (I9, B5, etc.), but he loved sinking Daddy's ships. While we were playing, Sam was just wandering around playing with toys. Whenever someone would yell, "You sunk my battleship!" Sam would say, "You need new one? Me get you new one." Then he would run over to you with a pretend battleship. It was cute and entertaining.

Isaiah's 5th birthday

For Isaiah's 5th birthday, we were on vacation in Tennessee. He wanted to go to the Hands On Museum, which we had visited the year before. So we spent most of the day there, for his birthday.

I'm always amazed at Dan's cash register skills. Those days at Shop N Save really paid off!

Sam also tried on a pink unicorn costume (his choice!), but I don't think those pictures are meant for the internet. LOL!

Crazy kid sayings

• Before Christmas, Sam was hardly speaking at all. In the last 5-6 months, his verbal abilities have improved so much. However, he's still pretty hard to understand if you're not used to being with him all the time. In the car, I was telling Dan about Sam talking to the cashier and she couldn't understand him. Isaiah said, "Sam speaks... kinda Spanish." Too funny.
• Tonight we were reading the Bible story about Jesus teaching in the temple. At the end of the story, there was the question, "Where can you go to learn more about God?" (Obvious answers: Church/Bible/Mom/Dad) Isaiah's answer: "The internet?" I just never know what is going to come out of his mouth.
• We were leaving the gym the other day, and I was sitting in the car figuring out which errands I wanted to run in which order. Isaiah asked where we were going next. I paused then said, "Um, I'm trying to figure out what makes the most sense." Isaiah replied with, "Mommy, are you loading?" (referring to his games he playes, where the little loading bar shows up while the games are starting up.)

Kids say the darndest things

Isaiah has loved being in the eagle's nest (childcare while shopping) at our local grocery store, Giant Eagle. He especially loves playing the Wii and other video games. When we were leaving the grocery store the other day, the boys and I were talking about the fact that Sam will be able to go in the eagle's nest when he's three.
Isaiah's comment: "Mommy, then you can mind your OWN business!"
Gosh, that one made me laugh. Kids use expressions in funny ways.

Sam-isms

Yesterday, when Dan and Sam came to rescue me from the broken minivan (Isaiah was at Vern and Lorrie's):

Sam: Mommy, you park there? (Referring to the van parked in the middle of the road).
Me (a little exasperated): Well, I didn't do it on purpose!
Sam: Mommy, are you sorry?

During story time tonight:

Me, reading inside the cover: "This book belongs to Sam."
Sam (noticing that I wrote his name in the book): Mommy wrote in my book. That bad. No write in books.

And one Isaiah-ism just to round it out.

We were eating outside on the deck over the weekend and commenting about how our house needs powerwashed again:

Me: The last time we cleaned the siding, I was pregnant with Sam.
Isaiah: What's pregnant mean?
Me: Sam was still in my belly.
Isaiah: I remember when I was in your belly. It was scary and dark. I tried to find a light switch, but I couldn't find one.

And since I'm thinking of it, here's one from my pre-teen nephew:

Sam: Me go poo poo on potty!
Me: Ok! Everybody gets poo poo cookies! J do you want one?
J: How do they taste?
J's Dad: Like poo, J.

Hope they give you a laugh today.

Gooey goo

This morning, our science experiment was making goo out of cornstarch and water. I used 1 cup of cornstarch mixed with 1/2 cup of water. Lots of fun and very easy cleanup.

The light at the end of the tunnel

Today I had some extra time before class, so I started cleaning out my classroom. Another teacher shared my room at the beginning of the year, and there were still some odds and ends around that I thought might be his. So I got those out of there. I filed some music from our concerts, music that we're done with for this year.
It's amazing the rejouvenation that comes along with the end of the school year. The warmth of the spring and approaching summer vacation just help everyone gear up for the end of the year.
Also, with the craziness of musical season, all my normal rountines get pushed aside, and we all go into survival mode. Now that the musical has been over for several weeks now, I feel like I'm starting to get back into some of my Flylady and other routines. It's nice when life calms down a little. =)

Isaiah update: Still obsessed with Daddy, loves drawing Veggie Tales characters.
Sam update: Can spell his name and has started spotting "S" everywhere we go.

My little boy

Lately I've noticed a big change in Isaiah. For the first time, he has started to strongly prefer Dan to me. He is obsessed with Daddy, wants to do everything he does, imitates him, can't wait til he gets home, runs to give him pictures when he gets home, pretends he's calling him on the phone, and on and on. I'm not going to lie. I don't like this new trend at all. I mean, I guess I knew it was bound to happen, but still. I thought he was my boy. =)

Mother's Day

This morning the boys and Dan surprised me with breakfast in bed. The boys looked so cute bringing in my food while wearing their matching monkey pajamas. Sam said, "Happy Mother's Day!" After church and lunch at my in-laws, the boys gave me a shirt, necklace, and lip gloss. So cute. Isaiah picked out the shirt at Kohl's. They also each gave me a card. Sam scribbled on his. Isaiah drew a thomas train inside his and wrote "To Mommy from Isaiah." He was so excited to give everything to me.

Dan's mom gave me a cookbook filled with cookie recipes. Yum! The boys were excited about that one. My mom planted some flowers the planter that hangs from my deck. I feel spoiled and loved. Many thanks to my amazing family.

Today's moments

This morning when Isaiah was getting dressed, he said, "Mommy, if our washer wasn't working, we could just use oxyclean." In a related side story, our dryer still hasn't been fixed. The back ordered part was supposed to have shipped on Feb 11. Our dryer was still under warranty when the heating element stopped working three weeks ago, so we have to use their repair company if we want the replacement part to be under warranty. So we wait... and make many trips to the laundromat. We were there today, and an older gentlemen felt bad for Isaiah who was sitting at the video games playing around with the joysticks. He gave Isaiah a quarter so he could play. So sweet.

Then later in the day, I heard him singing, "More music, KLOVE." It's amazing what kids absorb. All the more reason I'm glad we finally have KLOVE in our area. When we're riding in the car, it's just nice to know that every song is appropriate. I don't have to worry about which song is coming next or what a dj might say.

Sam started saying "cheek" today. Of course when I wanted him to say it, he wouldn't. When I point to his cheek and ask him, "What's this?" he'll say, "Eye!" and laugh hysterically. He's such a little goofball.

Isaiah-isms

• The other day Isaiah was working on his schoolwork book. There was a picture of an old-time village. He had to find the items in the picture that did not belong in the time period, like the tv, digital clock, etc. Then, there was a question, "Before people had cars, how could they get from place to place?" He said, "Well, you could walk, or ride a cow, (pausing) or a friendly reindeer." I don't think he understood why I was laughing so hard.
• Last night Sam didn't want to take a bath. He was just standing there in the tub fussing. Finally, Isaiah had had enough, and said (exactly in the tone and matter-of-factness he hears when I say it), "That's life, kid. It's not the end of the world." Surprisingly, Sam sat right down.
• Today, Isaiah was filling out his Cars valentines. When it came time to choose one for Sam, he said, "Which one says, like, I love you or something?" He really does love his brother.
